Sponsored Walk

On Friday 6th October we had our annual Sponsored Walk. The children, staff and parents’ association complete this walk every year to raise money for the school. This years money went towards gymnastics lessons and the purchasing of new P.E equipment. The whole school set off at 9.30 am and we completed the loop in under an hour. On our return all the children received some well earned treats from the parents’ association. We raised a massive €1,045! Well done to everyone who supported the cause and a big thanks to the Parents’ Association for all their organising! Take a look at a selection of photographs from the day!

Jordan’s Run!

On June 13th this year Jordan Percy in 6th class along with his running partner Mrs. Barry completed something very special! After training very hard they completed a 5km run in aid of the NCBI (The National Council for the Blind) Before they completed the run they collected money for the NCBI. They collected over €500.  Jordan’s class met him and Mrs. Barry at the town park and they ran the last kilometer to show their support for Jordan. On his arrival back to Maryborough the whole school was there to meet him feeling very proud!

Everybody is so proud of Jordan on his fantastic achievement. Jordan and Mrs. Barry trained so hard often facing the elements which wasn’t easy! A big well done to Mrs. Barry too! An amazing achievement for an amazing cause!

CRAFTed

The children in 5th and 6th class were lucky enough to take  part in a ceramics workshop every Thursday throughout this term. This was in association with the Craft Council of Ireland. The children worked with artist Maeve Sookrom and created some amazing headpieces, wall hangings and necklaces.  Check out the pictures which show the finished product. We really enjoyed the workshops it was a wonderful opportunity and we learned so much! A big thank you to Maeve for everything!

BIZ World & Dragon’s Den!

5th and 6th Class recently completed a two day workshop with Bank of Ireland called Biz World. Over the two days we learned about enterprise and how to become an entrepreneur.  The class were split into groups and each group had to come up with a business idea and create a business plan. This involved marketing and finance. We had some wonderful business ideas such as a flying ambulance, personalised headphones, recycling old household appliances and, a smoothie business. On the second day each group had to present their business plan to two Dragons and try and convince them to invest in our business. We learned so much and we definitely have some budding entrepreneurs in 5th and 6th class. Well done to everyone and a big thank you to Nadia & Pauline in the Bank of Ireland. Also, thank you to Mrs. Whitten who played the part of one of the dragons on the day!
